About Yoga Saguaro

Richard Roth, an internationally trained yoga instructor opened Yoga Saguaro in Tubac, AZ in 2007. A culmination of his educator’s experience and extensive  training in yoga, and his deep connection to serve  people. Richard’s spark for yoga began when the Beatles traveled to Rishikesh, India in the 60’s. His initiation to yoga started with Richard Hittleman's yoga paperback as no yoga instructor could be found in southwestern Illinois. Rich traveled to Benares Hindu University in Varanasi, India to study yoga with Dr. of Yoga, Krishna Tripathi. He followed this training with a trek to Rishikesh, India, just as the Beatles had in the 60's. Rich's broad yoga training/ study spans the globe from the U.S., India,  Bali, Indonesia,  Australia  and Buenos Aires, Argentina.  In this country his favorite inspiring yoga teachers are  Bob Smith & Ki McGraw of Hatha Yoga Center, Seattle;  Erich Schiffman; and Max Strom--global yoga teacher, speaker, and author. Baba Hari Dass of Mount Madonna Center.


 Richard has earned the top yoga teacher certification of experienced, registered yoga teacher at the 500 Level, (E-500 RYT) from Yoga Alliance. He taught yoga at Pima Community College,initiated the yoga program at Rio Rico High School in’06. While teaching junior English at Rio Rico High, he  also taught yoga to teachers and staff of the Santa Cruz Valley United School District #35. Currently teaching yoga  at the Governors Mansion in Tubac, and Green Valley Recreation (GVR), Las Campanas Center, Community Performance and Art Center (CPAC) in Green Valley. 


Rich is known for his service to others, volunteering as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer first in Sierra Leone, West Africa, 91~92; then for 27 months in Mozambique, 98~2001. On his first trip to India he twice volunteered in Calcutta, India at Mother Theresa’s --"Home for the Destitute & Dying".


Richard 's mission is to inspire his fellow yoga students to find their path in order to reach their highest potential, self realization/actualization, in this life.
